Your safety is our top priority during the Swim for Scholarships campaign. Whether you’re swimming laps at a local pool, or training in open water, please follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Participation in the Swim for Scholarships campaign is voluntary. By participating, you acknowledge and accept full responsibility for your personal safety. The Te-Kworo Foundation and event organizers are not liable for any injuries, accidents, or incidents that may occur during your participation in this event, including training sessions, practice swims, and the final swim event.

We strongly encourage all participants to follow the safety guidelines outlined below, swim responsibly, and consult a healthcare professional before engaging in physical activity if you have any concerns about your fitness or health.

General Safety Tips:


Choose Safe Locations

Always swim in designated swimming areas supervised by lifeguards.
Avoid isolated or unmonitored locations, especially in open water.
Know Your Limits
Swim at a pace and distance comfortable for your fitness level.
Take breaks as needed and hydrate regularly.
Buddy System
Never swim alone. Bring a friend or ensure someone is watching you.
Weather Awareness
Check the weather forecast before swimming outdoors. Avoid swimming during storms, heavy rain, or rough water conditions.

Pool Swimming Safety:

Follow Pool Rules
Adhere to the specific rules of the pool you’re using.
Avoid running or diving in shallow areas.
Lifeguard Presence
Swim in pools with certified lifeguards present whenever possible.

Open Water Safety:

Wear a Swim Buoy
Use a brightly colored swim buoy for visibility and as a floatation aid.
Swim in Monitored Areas
Stick to areas marked for swimmers with safety patrols or lifeguards.
Beware of Hazards
Be cautious of strong currents, tides, underwater debris, or marine life.
Wetsuit Consideration
Wear a wetsuit if swimming in colder water to help retain body heat.

Health and Wellness:

Stay Hydrated
Drink water before and after swimming to stay hydrated.
Sun Protection
Apply waterproof sunscreen and wear UV-protective swimwear for outdoor swims.
Warm-Up and Cool-Down
Perform proper stretches or light exercises before and after your swim.
Listen to Your Body
Stop swimming immediately if you feel unwell, dizzy, or overly fatigued.
